Get to Know a Junior Friend Board Member- Jeanne Barton, New Members Chair

Today we’re excited to kick off a new series on the blog, “Get to Know a Junior Friend.” With the new season upon us and our first General Membership meeting in the books, what better way to start off the series than to introduce our New Members Chair, Jeanne Barton. Jeanne is known to always be helping out, looking fabulous and sharing stories and pictures of her beautiful family. This year, Jeanne takes the reigns of the New Members chair; in this role she’ll work on recruiting new members and making sure our new Junior Friends have a wonderful first year. If you are interested in talking to Jeanne about becoming a New Member or have friends you would like to recommend, please check out the New Members page on the blog!

Jeanne joined the Junior Friends of the Campagna Center in 2010 at the recommendation of her friend, Katie Groupe. She immediately jumped in with both feet chairing Home Tours her first year! When not spending her time at board meetings and volunteering with the Center, Jeanne spends time with her husband Gary, sons Gary III and James and their goldendoodle, Irish (you’ll learn more about his great name below!) And, is a Real Estate Agent with TTR Sotheby’s in Old Town, Alexandria! Get to know Jeanne a little more by checking out her Q&A below!

What year did you join the Junior Friends?
2010?? I think? (It’s OK Jeanne, most of us rely on Anne Culbert to remind us when we joined :))
How did you find out about the Junior Friends?
A fellow Junior Friend (Katie Groupe)
Why is it important for you to volunteer/give back?
It grounds me. Everyone needs a guiding or helping hand at one point. All of us are so fortunate and blessed and sharing that with others is so important. I want my children to see what we do and how much we can help others in our own community.
What was your first event/day-of-duty?
I was actually asked to chair Home Tours my first year! They needed someone to fill in and I jumped right in. It was SO fun and I learned as I went along. Plus, I co chaired with someone who has become one of my dearest friends!
Have you chaired any events or activities?
Home Tours (2 years), Secretary, Social Media (2 years)
What do you enjoy most about the Junior Friends?
The amazing women that volunteer and work so hard to make our events a success. What an inspiration!
What neighborhood do you live in?
Do you have pets?
1 dog. Goldendoodle named Irish.

What can you share about yourself that no one would know unless you told them?
I was a competitive golfer growing up and played for the University of Notre Dame. I’m an avid Notre Dame fan (hence the dog’s name). I love country music, having dance parties with my kids, and chocolate chip cookies.
